TTA CALLS FOR THE INSTANT INTERDICTION OF THE HEADMASTER OF TWENEBOA KODUA SHS OVER AN ALLEGED ASSAULT ON A TEACHER DURING INVIGILATION ON MONDAY
On Monday, 3rd August 2020, an incident occurred at the Tweneboa Kodua SHS in the Sekyere Kumawu district as it was circulated on various sites and news bulletins with videos of a demonstration by the students who violated the coronavirus social distancing protocols and wearing of nose mask over what they call “strict supervision” by their headmaster, Mr. John Asante Bawuah. This is very unfortunate to be happening in this trying times of the covid-19 pandemic.
In the wake of this issue, A lot of bloggers have had hydra-headed captions but with one direction making it appear that the students of the school are not “intelligent” enough, for the want of a better word, to have prepared adequately for the WASSCE this year.
The leadership of TTA after the incident happened on Monday, have made a lot of consultations and background checks which have eventually discovered the true meaning of the “strict supervision” the students were trumpeting in the videos cited on social media.
It was alleged by some innominate indivduals within the school that the headmaster’s robust and fierce autocratic style of leadership in the school has been the ultimate cause of this mess.
It is worth noting that it was discovered he has no respect for his Assistant headmasters, teachers and students. He was transfered to head the school only last year and it’s interesting to know that within one year, he has worked with 3 headmistresses and 2 Assistant headmasters ‘Administration’ due to his known quick temperament of speaking carelessly to his subordinates and best known for assaulting students when he is furious about happenings in the school.
This reflected at the opening day of the students writing their first major and written paper, integrated science.
During the period of writing the paper aforestated, it was alleged that he stopped any student from going out to visit the natures call directing them to do it in a black polythene bag if they could. We absolutely do not subscribe to this move by the head of the school on the bases of a violation of the right of the students to visit the privy during exam. This is disgraceful and must be condemned.
What we know is, the student is allowed to visit the privy and sometimes, with a teacher accompanying them to ensure no foreign material is picked up by the student.
It was also discovered that the headmaster allegedly gave two strong slaps to one of the teachers invigilating the students when the former apparently saw the latter with a mobile phone making a call.
Albeit, we condemn the teacher’s actions of sending a mobile phone to the invigilation center and on top of that making a call in the invigilation process which is against the GES rules and demands that he’s brought to book, the headmaster also has no legal right to extend his hand to slap the teacher in question and he must face the necessary punishment from GES.
Looking at the various instances of physical assaults by the headmaster on both students and teachers coupled with other tangential issues, it is vivid that the headmaster lacks true leadership skills and do not qualify to lead a school. The leadership of TTA calls on GES to with immediate effect, interdict him to remedy the situation.
This will avert any future demonstrations by the students as it looks like the headmaster has lost it all from the inside and the administration of the school is holistically broken. Education is a right, not a privilege.
Moreover, there are other videos surfacing on social media from various senior high schools like Ndewura Jakpa SHTS, Juaben SHS, SWEDURU SHS, Akumfi Ameyaw SHS, Bright SHS, etc, with some of them insulting the President of the land for deceiving them with the distributed past questions where no question from the distributed books appeared in their first exam, i.e Integrated Science.
TTA calls on all stakeholders of the education sector and the security agencies to thoroughly conduct investigations into these uncallful and irresponsible acts of the students to restore the sanity of our country’s education.
