Teachers must be accorded the needed recognition both in kind and in cash this horrible times.
Why am I saying this?
Schools were reopened barely 18 days ago; students are in school.
And per the report by the Deputy Director General of Ghana Education Service, Mr. Tandoh, this morning 9th July, 2020, on Joy news; 13 students have tested positive for covid 19 in various schools.
One can imagine how many students are at the quarantine centers awaiting Covid 19 test results in the various schools. This truly shows that the teacher is not safe.
Some teachers are placed in schools to serve as Covid-19 holding team, risking their lives to fish out those with possible cases before doctors arrive.
PPEs alone cannot be a motivation factor to be a “front liner” in the schools.
What is the government and the PTA doing to motivate these selfless teachers, mostly PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHERS in the second cycle schools?
The teacher’s live also matters. I therefore entreat the Director General of Ghana Education Service, the teacher unions, CHASS and all the stake holders to come to the teachers aid.
We are risking not just our lives but that of our families back home. WE TOO CAN DIE.
Teachers are now front line workers.
A concern Physical Education Instructor.
