The lament of the trainee teacher in recent weeks is in connection with the decision of the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education (PRINCOF) not to refund the feeding components of trainee allowance.

The leadership of TTAG together with its members have exercised their displeasure on the stance taken by PRINCOF.

The Trainee front led by TTAG believes that Trainees were not present on campus due to Covid-19 and hence were not fed. The quest of the leadership is that, the feeding component of the allowance which purposefully was to be used to feed Trainees were not utilised due to the pandemic and hence should be refunded to trainees.

In an exclusive interview with Madam Sophia Micah, Principal for St. Teresa’s College Of Education(Teresco) she added her voice on this issue by saying that it wouldn’t be possible for level 100s and 200s to be given their feeding component of their allowance.

According to her, most colleges had already placed order for food items for the semester before it was announced for the postponement of the semester.

Aside the above reason, she went on to say that, prices of food items budgeted for have also gone up and extra cost had to be incurred to get the online lessons going.

Her response follows agitations from levels 100 and 200 from various colleges of Education who are demanding for their feeding component of their allowance following a halt of their semester as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, checks from the Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana, TTAG has revealed that, they are still in talks with the Conference of Principals of Colleges of Education, PRINCOF to settle the impasse.
