Licensure Examination Cancellation Suicidal-GES Director-General
The Ghana Education Service Director-General has said that, the cancellation of the National Teaching Council’s examination could be suicidal.
Speaking to Daily Graphic yesterday during his visit to Accra College of Education, Prof Opoku-Amankwaa said that, the cancellation of the licensure examination will keep our teachers below international standards
“If that happens, then we will still keep our teachers below international standards. But we have to make every effort to bring them at par with their counterparts elsewhere, and that is the best practice everywhere,” he said in an interview.
Prof also gave the importance of the licensure examination as stated below;
- Licensure examination would promote professionalism
- Licensing the teaching profession would bring teachers at par with their counterparts elsewhere in the world
According to prof, it is now mandatory for a person who wish to teach to complete the mandatory national service and also pass the licensure examination
Prof also added that, quality education needds professionalism of teachers through the licensure examination.
Prof. Opoku-Amankwa said if Ghana was really serious about the quality of education, “then we should be very serious about the professionalism of teachers, of which licensing and continuous professional development are a part”, adding that the provision of the needed resources and other support for teachers was equally important.
“We cannot reverse the professionalism of teachers and continue to shout about quality of education,” he explained.
The licensure examination just ended to.
