GJA Appealed Over Gross Misconduct And Abuse Of Office By Ashanti NSS Boss
The Ghana Journalism Association has been petitioned over the conduct of the Ashanti Regional Director of National Service Scheme, Mr. Alex Opoku Mensah aka Omens following a publication by one Gideon Peprah, a journalist service personnel.

The said publication on delayed payment of allowances and purported text messages inviting service personnel for credit facility by the scheme as expressed by some personnel in the region has infuriated the regional boss hence his decision to impose unimaginable sanctions on Gideon Peprah(Nana Peprah).
In the said publication, it was revealed that some NSS personnel in the region registered their displeasure after rejecting the loan facility which has a killer interest rate.

Some days after the publication, this reporter who had made several unsuccessful attempts to interview the NSS director was invited to the secretariat where he received the shock of his life in the form of intimidation, verbal abuse and threats.

Not satisfied with the explanation given by the victim, Mr. Opoku Mensah has currently sacked and transferred the victim from the region to a village in the Upper East region.

He has ordered the victim to refund the one (1) month allowance he had received out of the four months to the Secretariat or get him arrested with follow up cautions and reminders.

He cautioned to block the victim’s access to receive any monthly allowance. Again, since he deserved not to be on the scheme with reasons best known to him(Omens) and gone ahead to deny him access to his dashboard for monthly evaluation form.

Commenting on the issue, a senior journalist and and former news editor of Silver fm, Kwaku Adu Gyamfi has condemned the act and described the Ashanti regional NSS boss’s action as an attack on media freedom.

He has called off the bluff of Opoku Mensah daring him to go ahead and cause the arrest of the victim if he mean business. He reminded Opoku Mensah to note that ” Position Is Not Possession”
