GES Donates SHS Stock Food Items To Ghana Prisons Service

The Ghana Education Service (GES) after consultation with the Ministry of Education, National Food Buffer Stock, and the Free SHS Secretariat have donated stock food items in various Senior High School (SHSs) to the Ghana Prisons Service to feed the vulnerable inmates.

Presenting the items on behalf of the management of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Prof Kwasi Opoku Amankwa explained that, the advent of the novel coronavirus leading to the closure of schools has had multiple effects in these schools.

He further explained that “Since schools are not in operations, these foods supplied will certainly go waste or expired if not consumed”.

The assorted foods donated included: Tom Brown 914 bags of 20kg, Tin Milk 9,101 cartons, Tomato paste, 659kg, Ghana Rice, 690 of 50kg, Maize 181 of 100kg bags, Beans 244 of 100kg bags. Other items donated included mackerel, vegetable oil, flour, peanut, millet, cocoa powder among others.d.

According to Prof Amankwah, the food items will be equally distributed to all prison service offices across all the sixteen regions.

Mr. Patrick Darko Missah, the Director-General of the Prison Service, who received the items on behalf of his management expressed gratitude to MoE, GES, and NFBS for their thoughtfulness.

“Of course, Prison Service isn’t the only vulnerable group in the country, so for the donors to have settled on us as recipients for this generous gesture deserves every praise and commendation”, he remarked.

Officers from NFBS and Free SHS Secretariat joined the GES entourage for the ceremonial donation at the Prison Headquarters.

The National Food Buffer Stock under the auspices of the Ministry of Education supplies foods to the schools periodically as part of the operationalization of the Free Senior High School.
