COVID 19 HAS ENHANCED E-LEARNING IN GHANA
The Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency and Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has said despite coronavirus being a deadly disease it has also enhanced Ghana’s performance in the Education sector.
The Deputy Education Minister said this in an interview with Kumasi based Hello FM, although Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum admitted that the disease been declared a global pandemic is a killer but in his view, it has also helped Ghana move a step further particularly in the education sector.
“We have been struggling over the past years in the implementation of the virtual learning or E-learning but due to the outbreak of the global pandemic the country has witnessed a significant improvement in online learning which has even been extended from university to the KG”. he said.
He added that nobody ever believed there would be a time for all private and public Universities in Ghana to conduct teaching and learning virtually.
However, he admitted that the virtual learning method is not 100 percent accurate but one way or the other it will, in the long run, help the nation.
Yaw Osei Adutwum said for example if 25% of the population of Legon students were to be educated virtually without necessarily visiting classrooms, the number of lecture blocks constructed annually will be reduced. yet, students will continue schooling.
He commended all management of Universities in Ghana for making the implementation of the E-learning a success despite the challenges.
The Minister said: although we are in difficult times there are some new ideas we have learned from the programme which will benefit the country in so many ways after the global situation is restored to normalcy”.
