All universities Will Reopen Coming June 15 – VC’s Assure Akufo-Addo

The Vice-chancellors of public and private universities have refuted the allegations reported by some media indicating that some universities would not be reopening on June 15 which goes contrary to Akufo-Ado’s directive for all institutions reopened for final year students in the country.

Chairman of the Vice-Chancellors of Ghana and also Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana on behalf of all the present Vice-Chancellors assured President Akufo-Addo that all universities in the country in compliance with his directive will reopen on Monday, June 15, 2020, as announced.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ghana, Professor Ebenezer Oduro speaking on behalf of his colleagues said “You gave a Presidential order that all Universities should reopen on Monday, June 15, 2020. I think somewhere last week, some of the media and online portals claimed that some Universities have disobeyed the President’s order and are not ready to reopen. Mr. President, let me assure you that that is not the case at all. Every University is willing to reopen and none of us is defying your orders”.

“On Monday, June 15, 2020, every university will reopen as you have directed. We are of confidence that the orders were given in sole contest and that tells us that we need also to apply wisdom and sole level of discretion in getting the students to campus to complete their academic work”. he added

President Akufo-Addo summoned vice-chancellors of the various universities across the country to discuss some relevant matters ahead of the June 15 reopening of universities.

The President explaining his partial decision to reopen schools for only final year students said: “is to prevent the experiences of some Ghana students in the past who’s education were interrupted because of political decisions and reasons”.
